With the experience I gained working in the high school setting as both a TEA Certified ELA teacher and Certified High School Counselor and partnering with parents and students, allowed me to help them navigate through surmounting educational challenges. As an Educational Consultant & therapist associated with Pediatric People in Frisco, I guide parents and students with academic decisions and processes, serve as an special educational advocate, and coach students with Executive Functioning and other learning deficits with goal specific skills.
Pediatric People's Wellness Approach for the Whole Child
Teens are bombarded by information in this electronic age, and multitasking is as routine as chatting with friends online. Recent medical science highlights showing how sensory overload can hinder our children. Our brains, evolutionarily, have never been subjected to the amount of cognitive input that is coming at once. For preteens and teens, they simply can’t close down the world; however, we can educate kids to help them manage this. At Pediatric People, we believe that the power of therapy - aimed at correcting faulty cognitive thinking and preventing risky adolescent behaviors - is more effective by offering practical strategies for making in-the-moment decisions, rather than merely lecturing teens about the behaviors themselves.
By raising awareness of this paradoxical period in teen brain development, our goal is to help young people cope with their challenges, as well as recognize their considerable strengths.
